HOW TO KEEP A YOUTHFUL FACE AT ANY AGE: Three procedures to rejuvenate your face

Italian priest St. Jerome once wrote “The face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking confess the secrets of the heart”. It should come as no surprise, the face is one of the most distinguishable parts of the human body.

 

However, as we age, skin elasticity and muscle tone decrease, and many people develop pockets of excess fat in the face, neck, and chin. These fatty deposits create a droopy, drained look that can add years to your reflection.

 

Cosmetic surgery procedures are increasingly used to combat aging, and these three procedures can be a powerful means of achieving this end.

 

1. PRP (PLATELET-RICH PLASMA) – Platelet Rich Plasma uses the healing properties of your own platelets (taken from a small sample of your blood), to stimulate collagen production in the skin and fuel the treatment area with stem cells and growth factors. This helps enhance the skin tone, strengthen dermal integrity and boost skin health on the face and body. This is great for thin skin, especially around the eyes, neck, full face and hands. And in case you were wondering, PRP is a very safe treatment – primarily because the healing parts of your own blood will be used, so there is no chance of an allergic reaction or serious side-effects.  

 

2. BOTOX  – Used to produce a smoother-looking brow, Botox (a purified protein derived from the botulinum toxin) is given via tiny injections directly into the muscle. Once within the tissue, the protein prevents the muscle from fully contracting. Botox is used to both prevent and treat facial wrinkles that are caused by underlying daily muscular activity. Treatments are ideal for horizontal forehead lines, vertical lines between your eyes (the glabella), and crow’s feet around your eyes. It is also beneficial in treating the chin (orange peel appearance), vertical lip lines, or for lip enhancement. 

 

3. BROW LIFT – Also referred to as a forehead lift, a brow lift reverses the effects of gravity and tightens the soft tissues of the forehead to restore a more youthful contour to your forehead skin, upper eyelids and eyebrows. There are various brow-lift methods, which involve different length incisions in different locations and, sometimes, an endoscope. A youthful brow at rest is positioned above the orbital rim, with a gradual arch laterally, and the lateral end or ‘tail’ of the brow located higher than the medial end. As one ages, it is common for the brow to assume a flat or horizontal position. If a sagging brow inhibits your facial expression, a brow lift is a time-tested method for rejuvenating the upper third of your face.
